It's been a while...

It's definitely been a while since my last posting and for that I have no other reason, besides being lazy. I also haven't had too much to write about. I have a friend who works at a children's hospital in Cincinnati and she brought something to my attention which I thought was very true and worth noting. She said that the gift shop at the hospital where she works, always has a window display that is always very creative and fun to look at. But she said they seemed to have gone from their last display and jumped directly to Christmas. Isn't Thanksgiving a holiday??? It's probably one of the more well-known holidays that the entire world celebrates. They didn't have any fake leaves or a turkey stuff animal? They couldn't dress the mannequins up as pilgrims? They couldn't have gotten a few pumpkins? I find it very hard to believe that they couldn't have come up with anything for Thanksgiving.

I know that Christmas is a very exciting time of year, especially for those who celebrate it, which seems like a lot of people. You can be a Jew and still celebrate Christmas. Take my nephews for instance. Their father (my brother) is Jewish and their mother is Irish-Catholic. The boys were baptized byut they still celebrate both holidays and they think they are both fun to celebrate. My mother does a pretty good job of making the Jewish holidays fun for the kids. My other brother, his wife is Prodestan and she is raising her twin son and daughter Jewish. My sister in law takes them to church on the high holidays and they celebrate Christmas with her family. I think although my niece and nephews will be a certain religion from birth, they are able to celebrate both holidays equally. So, that brings me to my next question... will the gift shop at my friends hospital go from a Christmas display and jump right to New Years and skip Chanukah? Hmmm..........

Blinded

I never really realized how much of a difference having new blinds make. I've been in my condo for about 4.5 years and I never canged the blinds. I have painted al of the rooms in my place, but never replaced the blinds. They were old, bent and dirty (paints a pretty picture, huh?) So, I thought it was time to replace them with brand new, clean blinds. It really does make a huge difference.

No Faith in Underwood

No Faith in Underwood

If anyone saw the CMA (Country Music Awards), you'll know what I'm talking about here. When the nominee's for Female Vocalist of the Year were announced, Sara Evan's, Martina McBride, Gratchen Wilson, Faith Hill and Carrie Underwood were all pictured and waiting to hear who had won. And the winner is.... Carrie Underwood!! Boy was Faith ever so shocked she hadn't heard her name!

Bye, bye, bye...

I suppose I'm making up for a lack of blog entries, by putting 3 in one day. Then again, there's a lot that's been going on... and not just in politics. There have been a number of break-ups in the celebrity world lately and Britney and K-Fed are the latest couple to announce their seperation. Britney has filed for divorce from the one and only, K-Fed. I guess it was only a matter of time really. The rumors had already been swirling in the air and I think she was just in denial that things weren't what she wanted them to be. Things aren't always what they seem, especially in Hollywood. Awww, poor Brit & K-Fed.

That was Easy.

When Staples first aired a commercial about how much easier life would be if we had an "easy" button, who knew it would be such a huge seller. I'm not talking about Staples airing commercials to sell their product, I'm talking about what a huge seller the Easy button has been. Since last year, The easy button has sold $1.5 million at $5 a piece. That's a whole lot of easy buttons! A co-worker of mine has one that she got from a Yankee swap at work and although I haven't heard it in a while, people used to press that thing all the time!

Splitting up and Coming out

It seems to be, that if you're a celebrity in Hollywood, your marriage is about to end or you're about to come out of the closet. Since Reese and Ryan have announced their split, T.R. Knight and most recently, Neil Patrick Harris - AKA: Doogie Howser, who know has a hit show, "How I met Your Mother" have come out and admitted that they are gay. T.R's co-star Isiah Washington is homophobic and there is talk that he would like to persue something out of Grey's Anatomy since he is uncomfortable with T.R's sexuality. That would truly be a shame, to loose him from Grey's. What would Christina do without her strange relationship with out Burke? Beats me. Doogie on the other hand... oh Doogie. I guess it shouldn't be that big of a surprise. But why is it just men lately? Aren't there any female's that are coming out, ya know... to even things out a little?

Everything has a birthday

It's apparent that everything has a birthday. Even the traditional cocktail drink, the Martini. The Martini has turned 200. It amazes me that people even 200 years ago not only drank alcoholic beverages back then but discovered the Martini. The first Martini ever invented was the Ward 8 ($8), which included the following ingredients:

2 oz Blended whiskey
Juice of 1/2 Lemon
1 tsp Grenadine
1 tsp Powdered sugar
1 slice Orange
1 Cherry

The definition of the word "Cocktail" is a stimulating liquor, composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters. Back in the day, Colonial New Englanders made a lot of rum, it was pretty much their specialty. And they obviously needed to make a drink out of it. Who knew that it would not only be one of the most popular drinks 200 years later, but they have hundred's of different recipe's to choose from. Check out the storyhere:

Bridget Moynihan is a lucky girl. Or maybe it's the other way around, maybe Tom Brady is the lucky one. Tom is a lot of things, and now he can add one more to his resume: one of Boston's most stylish. It's true, and when he's not in his Patriot's uniform, he is usually dressed pretty well. I don't know much Bridget has to do with that, but he is #3 on the list. I think he dresses well, even if it's because he has a little help. But hey, who doesn't need a little help with fashion every now and then?

It's already November!

I say this every year at about this time, "where has the year gone??" I swear it was JUST New Years eve and Todd and I were partying at his friend's apt watching the snow fall. It's a little sickening to realize that Thanksgiving is only 22 days away!!! We were at the Natick Mall on Sunday and there were Christmas decorations everywhere. I turned to Todd and said that we hadn't even had Halloween yet and there are already fake Christmas trees, ornaments, and fake gifts to go under the fake tree! I'm definitely a fan of the holidays, but I guess I feel like they are coming a little too fast! We were at the Container Store on after we went to the Natick Mall, which I have to say will be amazing and quite large by this time next year, and we were exchanging a Tie rack for another tie rack and since we would have had to get a merchandise credit for about $5, we looked around for something that was at least $5. The only thing we could come up with was a $5 roll of Christmas wrapping paper! (yes, I am Jewish, but I have some non-Jewish friends! GASP!) So, It wasn't even November yet, and I have already been sucked into buying Christmas wrapping paper!! It was the cheapest of them all too! Thanksgiving is sort of a "Christmas" for the Jews. It's the one time that our families come together once a year. SO, I guess I could say that it's really my favorite holiday of the year.
