There's only one thing I need to say today....

HAPPY 1st Day of SPRING!! Although you wouldn't know it with the snow on the ground. it's also kind of cold out there today - not very "springlike". But I guess that's what happens when you live New England! It's 60+ degree's in December and part of January, Below freezing temps most of February... and the first snowstorm of the season to fall on Valentine's Day! I stopped complaining about the weather only b/c I've lived here all my life - I know it can reach 80 in the wintertime on one day and the next day we're in the middle of a blizzard. As unreliable as the weather can be in New England, I still love it here. Plus, the first day of Spring, regardless of how much snow is on the ground only means that Summer is not too far away!

Also, I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but Dunkin Donuts is giving away a FREE small iced coffee - any flavor, regular or decaf. I have not been yet, but I also hear that they are giving out free samples of coffee beans. And they say nothing is Free. Not only is this their way of thanking their devoted customers, but they're also starting the season on a good note! Thanks DD!

Bad Labor Hoax

For those of you who listen to Matty in the Morning on Kiss 108, if you were listening to yesterday's show between 7:40 and 8am, you would have heard what eventually turned out to be a hoax. Matty has a segment that starts around 7:40, called "Right Now" on Monday & Tuesday. It's basically the part of the show when the phone lines open up for people to call and tell everyone what is happening to them right there and then. It's one of my favorite segments - people have some really crazy stories. Yesterday's fit well into that "crazy" category. I woman called in who was apparently from Weymouth, on her way to the hospital because she had gone into labor and she couldn't get in touch with her husband. She said that her husband is a CPA (certified public account) and when he is with a client, he shuts his cell phone off. Already, the story is a little off. If a guy's wife is 9 months pregnant, he should be on the edge of his seat that the phone could ring at any moment! She said that she had left her "idiot husband" a thousand messages. She had what she said was her 2 year old (I can't remember now if it was a boy or girl) in the back seat. You could hear the toddler talking or crying in the background at one point or another. Matty and Billy were both talking her through what she said were contractions. She was driving from Weymouth to the Boston Medical Center in morning rush hour - there was no way she was going to make it to the hospital, even though her water hadn't broken yet. Matty's people were already on the phone with the Police department, trying to figure out where she was so the police could either escort her to the hospital or get an ambulance for her. They couldn't find her anywhere, at least where she said she was. She described her car and apparently where she was. Even other people who were where she said she was, called into the show and said that there was no one there. Jim from the Matty Show was even timing her contractions, which were closer and closer together. She fought for a short while with Matty telling them she didn't want an escort - I wonder why?! She finally stopped her car because she had to walk around... and then suddenly her husband called and she hung up.
Fox 25 news found out about this "Labor Hoax" and interviewed Weymouth residents on what they thought about this story - people couldn't believe the story. The police department said that they had several cars on the road as well as an ambulance and a fire truck on the lookout for someone who was not in need of any of these things. Matty and his crew reacted the way they should have - and thankfully they aren't as mad as they should be. Whoever this prankster is or was, should be caught and dealt with.

To Everyone, THANK YOU! From - Starbucks

I was on my way to work this morning, listening to Matty in the Morning on Kiss 108 like I do every weekday morning when I heard a Starbuck's commercial. Normally I'd wait until the actual day this was happening, but I figured I'd give who ever is reading this some advanced time to prepare. This Thursday, Starbuck's is thanking all of their customers by giving away a large coffee from 10am-12noon. And if this blog isn't enough and you think you might not remember, if you go onto their website you can enter your cell phone number and they will send you a text message to remind you. Plus, I'm sure my friend Marty will read this and post it on his blog so even more people will notice it :)

Not quite close to a 5 game winning streak...

I've only been to the Celtic's game one other time than last Wednesday night. The differences between the two games? The first one I went to, I sat in my company's box seats - everything was paid for and the C's won. The game was fun, except we paid for our seats and the C's lost. It was still fun though - I can't complain. Our seats were pretty good and Sister Hazel sang the National Anthem. The Celtic's started off OK in the first quarter, but quickly fell behind... final score Houston Rockets: 111 Celtic's: 80. They were on a 4 game winning streak... oh well. I guess it was a better game because Yao Ming, who plays for the Rockets was there and he is TALL. Standing at 7'6" - that guys towers over just about anyone. Even standing next to the ref, it was funny to see the comparison - people must look like ants to him! Someone that tall can't be afraid of heights - that's for sure! I wonder what his house is like... are there cathedral ceilings? Does he have an extra long bed? He's got pretty big feet... and you know what they say about big feet, don't you? Big shoes, of course. Yao Ming wears a size 18 shoe that Nike customizes for him. I think if I had feet that big, I'd need my shoes to be custom fit too.

If I had a million Dollars... I'd buy you a.....

It's always fun to hope that maybe one day I'd win the lottery. My boyfriend stopped to buy a lottery ticket last night on his way over to meet me and my parents at Golden Temple in Brighton and my dad had a yellow post-it on his dashboard, reminding him to get a ticket on his way home from dinner. After all, how you could pass up a chance (as small as it might be) to win 370 Million dollars. It sounds so simple... you go wherever Lottery tickets are sold, give 'em 5 bucks and you walk out with 5 sets of numbers. And then when the news comes on, people become glued to their TV's, hoping that 6 small numbers will forever change their lives and maybe the lives around them. We went to bed knowing the numbers, but did not check the ticket, assuming that we did not having a winning ticket. Unfortunately, we proved ourselves right. The 2 lucky winners though who if they weren't up when the numbers were called, woke up very, very rich people. They have not come forward just yet, as I'm sure they are still pinching themselves as well as hiring a financial planner if they didn't have one already. One of the tickets was sold in Campark Liquors in Woodbine, NJ. The other was sold at Favorite Market in Dalton, GA. Poor California, their system had mechanical failure's about 20 minutes before the numbers were called. Apparently, the annual value of the ticket is $195 million and the cash option is $116.5 million, but that's before a federal tax of 25%. New Jersey does not tax lottery winnings.

I was given a $5 scratch ticket for X-Mas this past year from a supervisor... won $2! It certainly didn't feel like $370 million, but it felt good to win!

Rain, rain, go away!

There's no question about, 4 day work weeks are so much better than 5. Everyone looks forward to a long weekend, especially on Sunday... when you realize that you have one more day. How exciting is that?! You go back to work on Tuesday and the week is almost half way over. This past week was a regular, full week - and boy was it ever. I didn't think Friday would ever come! Now that Friday is here, it's cold, rainy and windy - a typical nor'easter. The kind of day you don't want to get out of bed. Listening to the rain fall outside - as much of a crappy day as it is out there, it's kind of soothing if you don't have to go out. And since my umbrella broke in the Valentine's day snow storm, I had to wear my new raincoat, which I know won't break. It's not a warm raincoat and it's not quite big enough to wear a heavy sweater, so, hopefully on the days that I do have to wear it, it will be a little warmer than it is today. Luckily, this is a fast moving storm and by noon it should be cleared up - just in time for the weekend to start.
So, to you all of you blog readers our there, TGIF!
