What will they think of next?

First there was the Popularity Dialer, now there is YouMail. YouMail, if you haven't heard of this yet, is an automated voicemail system in which you can create a personal outgoing message to certain people who call you. The way it works, is you create a free account at youmail.com and your calls and then the unanswered calls are re-routed from your current service provider to youmail and then to the personalized out-going message. If you want to customize a message for your mother, the user enters the friend/relative/someone's phone number and records a greeting for that particular person. If you have an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend, or someone else you do not want to talk to, YouMail offers Ditchmail for those unwanted callers and they will be blocked from leaving a message. They have also recently created a way for current users to rank and hear the outgoing messages of other users for someone who might not otherwise know what to say.
I think I'm OK with my generic message that everyone gets... for now anyway. But then again, I suppose when I want to dish out $400 or $500 for the new iPhone, maybe then I'll upgrade to the personalized messages.
